Short Biography
Tomoko Kamiyama studied under Nelson Shanks, Frank L. Porcu, and Richard C. Pionk at the Art Students League of New York.
There, she was trained in pastel drawing techniques by Richard C. Pionk, in depicting anatomy through Ecorche—showing the individual muscles and bones of the figure— by Frank L. Porcu as well as how to take measure of color surface by Nelson Shanks.
Upon returning to Japan, Tomoko joined the Tokyo Artists’ League of Life Drawing and continued to focus on life drawing. She currently prefers alla prima, in which a painting is completed in a single layer in a single sitting.
